Enhance Your Vehicle’s Performance with Tailshaft Upgrades

GJ Drivelines Mustang Manual

Looking to get more out of your vehicle? One of the best ways to boost performance is by upgrading your tailshaft.

A well-chosen tailshaft upgrade can revolutionise your driving experience, offering better power transmission, improved handling, and overall enhanced vehicle dynamics.

Let’s explore how you can elevate your vehicle’s performance with the right tailshaft upgrades from the GJ Drivelines Online Store.

Why Consider a Tailshaft Upgrade?

Upgrading your vehicle’s tailshaft might not be the first modification that comes to mind, but it plays a pivotal role in your car’s driveline system.

The tailshaft, or driveshaft, is essential for transferring power from the transmission to the differential, ultimately driving the wheels.

A top-quality tailshaft upgrade can make a significant difference in your vehicle’s performance.

Advantages of Upgrading Your Tailshaft

1. Superior Power Transmission

A performance-tailored tailshaft ensures that power is transmitted more effectively from the engine to the wheels. This results in quicker acceleration and a more responsive driving experience. Opting for a lightweight alloy or carbon fibre tailshaft can minimise rotational mass, leading to enhanced power delivery.

2. Better Handling

Reducing the weight of your tailshaft can also enhance your vehicle’s handling. A lighter tailshaft lowers the overall weight of your vehicle, which can reduce the centre of gravity and improve cornering stability. This is particularly advantageous for high-performance and racing vehicles.

3. Enhanced Durability

Performance tailshafts are designed to handle higher levels of torque and horsepower. Upgrading to a robust material, such as carbon fibre, can ensure that your tailshaft withstands the increased demands of a high-performance engine. This reduces the risk of failure and extends the lifespan of your driveline components.

Types of Performance Tailshafts Available

When considering an upgrade, it’s important to understand the various types of tailshafts available:

  • Alloy Tailshafts

Alloy tailshafts are lighter than steel, making them ideal for performance applications. They offer an excellent balance of strength and weight, providing improved acceleration and handling without sacrificing durability.

  • Carbon Fibre Tailshafts

Carbon fibre tailshafts are the premium choice for performance enthusiasts. They are exceptionally lightweight and strong, offering the best performance benefits. While they come at a higher cost, the investment is worthwhile for the substantial improvements in power transmission and handling.

  • Steel Tailshafts

Steel tailshafts are heavier but extremely durable and capable of handling significant torque. They are a great choice for heavy-duty applications and vehicles requiring a strong and reliable driveline component.

Important Factors to Consider When Choosing a Tailshaft

Before upgrading, keep these factors in mind to ensure you select the right tailshaft for your needs:

  1. Material: Choose the material based on your performance goals and budget. Alloy and carbon fibre provide the best performance benefits, while steel offers maximum durability.
  2. Length and Diameter: Ensure the tailshaft is the correct size for your vehicle. An incorrect size can lead to poor performance and potential damage to your driveline components.
  3. Power Capacity: Select a tailshaft that can handle your engine’s horsepower and torque. A tailshaft that can’t cope with the demands will wear out quickly and may fail under stress.

Universal Joint Size. There are hundreds of U-Joint sizes or “Series” to accomodate many different applications of power and desired longevity for your automotive, 4×4 truck or auto racing requirements, these 4 series of joints cover most needs.

1310 Spicer Series: 1 1/16″ Cup Diameter (Dim C – Diagram A) 3 7/32″ length (Dim B – Diagram A) Certain Ford applications have 2 cups 1 1/8 Diameter. Appropriate horse power range is up to 500 in circle track or road racing, small tire drag racing and 4×4. Also available: Performance Dynamic Cryo Joint.

1330 Spicer Series: 1 1/16″ Cup Diameter (Dim C – Diagram A) 3 5/8″ length (Dim B – Diagram A) Certain Ford applications have 2 cups 1 1/8 Diameter. Slightly stronger than 1310, Used in 5.0 Mustangs. Also available: Performance Dynamic Cryo Joint.

3R Saginaw Series: 1 1/8″ Cup Diameter (Dim C – Diagram A) Retained with internal clip 2 5/8″ (Dim B – Diagram A). Most common GM joint. Horse power range up to 700 in road racing and circle track. Solid drag racing U-Joint can accomodate most sportsman classes. Also available: Performance Dynamic Cryo Joint.

1350 Spicer Series: Manufactured with OEM tolerances and treated with our Cryogenic Process to yeild the strongest U-Joint available. For drag racing applications a solid non-lube design U-Joint is recommended because of the tremendous initial shock load, or short duration of high torque the joint must be able to withstand.
